These oversized business cards and information sheets were designed and produced for SILK—a small batch, sustainable and feminist jewellery brand based in North Yorkshire. Establishing the slogan of 'Life is too short to wear mass produced jewellery' these cards accompany hand-woven orders with a little note and an information sheet that shares the story of the brand. Typeset in Acherus Grotesque and Montserrat, laser printed onto White Wild 300gsm paper and finished by hand.
SILK was founded in 2020 during a period of lockdown and provided a lifeline to jewellery maker and small business owner Sophie Ivy Louise Kemp (Initials spelling SILK). With a pre-covid career in the live music industry as a tour and production manager, she has resourcefully adapted and now carefully hand sews glass beads and precious gems together to create beautifully fun and colourful designs. SILK jewellery has stemmed from Sophie's resilience and shows everyone out there that you can put a positive spin on the worst of situations with a bit of kindness, bravery and tenacity.
As well as creating great quality jewellery, SILK cares greatly about the environmental impact that businesses are having on the planet. The brand has established a sustainable ethos by leaving care instructions to be readily accessible online, sourcing responsible eco-friendly packaging companies, fully recyclable packaging, making in small batches instead of creating waste and using local small businesses for beads, photography and graphic design. All jewellery is provided with a soft pouch for storage, increasing the longevity of each piece to combat the wasteful short life of cheap jewellery and throwaway behaviour that comes with fast fashion. SILK is a slow paced company, run by one woman with minimal impact to the environment, providing a bold message and beads that can be worn with purpose and pride.
