Constellation is a typeface designed by Georgina Estill through a self-initiated brief—using the sky as a device to encourage people to lift their heads away from their smartphones and incite big questions, instead of getting caught up with small-scale dramas on social media and fake news or click bait that in the grand scheme of things, just don't matter. Social media is harnessed to throw society off the scent of genuine environmental and humanitarian issues so that the elites running our governments & corporations can continue to destroy our planet as they peddle our impatient consumerist culture. One of the many symptoms of a dying planet is the phenomenon of light pollution, 83 percent of the world's people live under light-polluted skies and that 23 percent of the world’s land area is affected by skyglow.
Constellation is mapped from the stars and presented in the way of a type specimen book via legendary science fiction quotes and graphics with a futuristic or space race aesthetic. By signifying sci-fi's direct influence on advancement in space technology, discovery and wonder, the book also echoes the principles behind the making of Constellation.
To accompany the book on display, a sterling silver 'A' from the typeface has been modelled and smithed by the designer.
