Vulnerability is not weakness is a limited edition of prints acting as an advocacy for discussing mental health. A bit different to the usual print production for positivity, this project was born from a late night video conversation with fellow printmaker Izzy Williamson on how publicly discussing mental health and wellbeing still holds the implications that our generation struggles to resolve.
It is only by normalising this topic that we begin to eradicate the stigma and shame surrounding it. Sharing our vulnerabilities does not make us weak—it makes us strong, showing courage and compassion. The resulting emotional exposure is a risk that many people find uncomfortable but it is in more wide-spread sharing that we can find the strength in what unites us, as humans. Everybody has a rough ride at some point—it’s inevitable.
Our vulnerabilities make us human, they inspire and empower you as well as frighten you. They allow us a deeper awareness of pain and empathy, the ability to free ourselves and form genuine connections.
Typeset in metal 30pt Cheltenham bold, this short snippet tumbled out my mouth and found it’s way onto paper as a series of 24, on Colorplan Sand and wonderfully woolly Takeo Youmoushi, a natural off white paper with a coarse texture produced with the use of 15% sheep’s wool.
