When sent to collect primary data on the first university awayday, Georgie's given location was the pier. Breaking away from the group, she set about on a mission to find the truth behind the neurotic setting that appears to float on the English Channel. Upon closer investigation, she discovered areas that contradict the annoyingly loud and colourful energy projected from the top of the pier. Underneath the pier, opposing the brash delirium, there lay evidence of another reality; smashed bottles, a temporary shelter, used needles, discarded cans, graffiti tags, grotty stalactites and eroded metalwork—this film acts as a title sequence introducing Brighton, not as this cheerful and over-elaborate holiday destination but as an aggregation of social decay, overwrought with homelessness, antisocial behaviour and first-hand encounters with less than friendly people.
